My poetry pamphlet originally had lovely illustrations provided by a friend. Unfortunately I found that publishers just did not want me to provide any artwork. They have their own artists that they want to use. I’m really happy with the finished pamphlet and the cover art but I would have loved to have had the original artwork included as well. I wish you luck with your venture!

I've followed the usual (obligatory) initiation route of giving my poems to a magazine for free and joining in the poetry fests to be noticed. But getting a collection accepted is still hard. A cynic might say (and I'm a cynic) that presses take on poets who are already known, on a circuit, participate in readings, festivals. I self-published because the only press I thought would be keen rejected my collection. No illustrations though. I don't know whether that would be a plus or a minus. I'm not sure how much difference getting readers' opinions would be since so much depends on who you know, who has noticed you, and how often.
